Mr. Airlangga Hartarto is a politician from the Golkar Party.
He used to be a member of the Indonesian DPR for period of
2004-2009 and 2009-2014. He was then appointed to be
Minister of Industry on the 27th of July 2016 by the
Indonesia’s 7th President Mr. Joko Widodo.

1. Question: What influenced you to be part of the Indonesian government and go to Golkar political party?
Answer: "Wow, that’s tough! First of all, I entered the Golkar party in 1998. I was one of the members and then I joined the Parliament in 2004 until 2012. I was re-elected three times. I joined the political party because of Indonesian democracy. Political party is one of the institutions for democracy. Political parties represent people’s aspirations."
2. Question: What was your strategy to win the elections?
Answer: "The first strategy was that you had to be known to the public. Second, you had to make a program that important for the people. My constituency was West Java and Bogor regency. Basically, that area was more rural and urban than other cities. It was a combination of program in education and health care that matters to the public."
3. Question: Do you know any organizations that helps elections and peaceful assembly?
Answers: "There are many organizations that have aspirations for keeping peace, a local organization or a foreign non-government organisation."
4. Question: Which community services help ensure equal rights? How do they do that?
Answer: "I think most of the political parties fight for equal rights. Human rights activists fight for equal human rights. I think that those organizations protect and help individuals who are not getting his/ her rights as an Indonesian citizen. There is also an organization like SPSI which fight for salary, facilities and any other worker rights."
5. Question: Which community services support government elections?
Answer: "The community services is available throughout the region because Indonesia is very big, from Aceh to Papua. It depends on the area, a lot of NGOs are also helping the people all over Indonesia."

Ms Desy Ratnasari was an entertainer, singer and lecturer before entering politics.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
1. Question: Who did motivate you to join the Parliament?
Answer: When I was 15 years old, I worked as an entertainer, model and actress. I promised to my Father that I had to graduate from university. Education was a priority for my Father. After I graduated from university, I already worked about 26 years as an entertainer. My Mother asked me a question, “What is the use of your diploma? You don’t use your diploma as an actress”. Therefore, my Mother motivated me to be a politician.
2. Question: What was your experience in the election?
Answer: For me, election was an event that had a lot of obstacles. I stopped to be an entertainer to focus on the election. I concentrated to my election area in Sukabumi.
3. Question: Based on your experience, were the elections fair?
Answer: For me, some of the elections were not fair because of money politics. Some candidates gave money to the people and requested them to vote for him/ her.
4. Question: What was your strategy to win the election?
Answer: My strategy was to help people. I am a member of Indonesian Parliament from Partai Amanat Nasional. I was elected from Sukabumi. For example, I had to visit and help people in Sukabumi when natural disasters happened.
5. Question: How does the house representative make sure for a peaceful assembly?
Answer: In the past, people were burning cars, house and hurting each other. Peaceful assembly is simple. We just give our opinion nicely with no violence.
6. Question: Do you know any community services that provide the same rights to the Indonesian to be part of the government?
Answer: If the Indonesian citizens want to join the politics, they have to join a political party . Thus, they can get elected for a position in government. Everything is related to political party.
INTERVIEW with mr WAHYU DEWANTO
Mr. Wahyu Dewanto is a member of the Hanura Party.
In Hanura Party, he is the Deputy Treasurer. He was elected to represent Jakarta in

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS:
1. Question: What is the differences between DPR and DPRD?
Answer: Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat (DPR) is in the same level as the government, DPR is responsible to help the job of the President and monitor on what happens in Indonesia. DPR makes Undang Undang Dasar (UUD) and budget allocation for the wellbeing of all citizens of Indonesia.
Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat Daerah (DPRD) is established in all provinces of Indonesia, including in DKI Jakarta, to help the local government.
2. Question: What motivates you to become a DPRD member?
Answer:The main motivation is to help the society. In DPRD, we make local regulation to support the well being of all citizens of Jakarta. For example, Kartu Jakarta Pintar (KJP) which support needy people that couldn’t afford schools.
3. Question: What is your strategy at winning the elections?
Answer:The main strategy was to convince people. I visited the people. I took note of their suggestions and rights. By the time I was elected, I made sure the communication between the people and I are well maintained. I helped and supported them through their difficulties.
4. Question: What organizations help fair elections?
Answer: Komisi Pemilihan Umum (KPU) is a community service that helps political elections. There is also Komisi Pemilihan Umum Daerah (KPUD) in all provinces. The Committee is in charge to note down, count and finalize people’s votes. Badan Pengawas Pemilu (Bawaslu) supervises KPU.
5. Question: What community services help equal rights?
Answer:In Jakarta, there are various programs to support the needy people. For example, Kartu Jakarta Sehat which provides free medical care for the needy people, so you can get medical care for free. Another example, Kartu Jakarta Pintar which provides free public school access for the needy students.
6. Questions: What community service could help a candidate through an election?
Answer:In my opinion, supporting elections is a commitment. For example, citizens should tell the Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat Daerah (DPRD) if there is any disasters such as flood in their area. We have to be available and ready to respond to people’s queries.
7. Question: How can community services help equal rights?
Answer:To support equality, we have to communicate and discuss on the issues in the society. We have to agree on the solutions and the plans to solve the issues.
8. Question: What community services did you do? How did it help the society?
Answer:I set up “Rumah Aspirasi” to compile people’s ideas for a better Jakarta. One of the ideas that we came up is to build a venue for children to do outdoor activities.
