ISSUE:
Unequal laws and rights in government, elections and assemblies
1. survey
Before planning and conducting the action plan, we created an issue and made a survey in order to solve it. We distributed the survey to many people. Most of the answers were effective and interesting. We requested teachers, elementary school, middle school and high school students to participate in our survey.
2. PLANNING
After that, we sorted out the survey answers. We decided to make a bazaar and donate the money raised to NDI (National Democratic Institute). NDI supported and promoted fair elections all over Asia. NDI also supported and strengthened democratic institutions. At the later stage, we thought it was an effective and better idea to make a bazaar and use the money raised to buy books about government, elections and laws. The books will then be donated to neighbourhood schools and orphanages.
3. Preparation
Before buying the goods that we were going to sell in the bazaar, we discussed our plan with the school building manager Mr. Gregorious and school Principal Mr. Peter. We explained details of our plan and checked on what they could do to help us. Mr. Gregorious helped us by providing space, tables and chairs for the bazaar. Mr.Peter provided a booth for us in our school play Tale of Three venue at free of charge. We obtained his full support for the charity bazaar. We obtained loan of IDR 4,000,000 from our parents for the bazaar capital. After that, we prepared the goods that we were going to sell, such as: slimes, snacks and drinks. We went to the supermarket to buy the bazaar items with adult supervision. It took us some time to pack and label the bazaar items. Our parents helped us to contact the neighbourhood schools.
4. THE BIG DAY
We had our first bazaar at school during the snack time. For our first bazaar, we sold slime, donuts, pie susu, soft drinks, notebooks, chips and nachos. After that, we went to Khirani’s house to get ready for our second bazaar at the school play Tale of Three venue. We sold slime, donuts, pie susu, soft drinks, notebooks, chips, nachos, juice, and fried noodle. A lot of people, including our school Principal Mr. Peter, bought items from our booth. We collected total sales of IDR 8,056,000 from both our bazaars.
5. Buying books
We collected total profit of Rp.4,056,000 from our bazaar. We went to the Gramedia in Pondok Indah Mall to buy the books for the donation. We bought 2 sets of books on politics, laws , the parliament, and Indonesian heroes. We also purchased 2 sets of Gramedia voucher worth IDR1,000,000, paper bags and cards.
6. Donating to schools
We went to 2 middle schools, SMP 189 and SMP Al Huda, to give the books, vouchers and greeting cards. We decided to donate the books to middle schools because we are going to middle school this year. Also, we felt that the government related subject is more relevant to middle school students. We asked permission from our teacher to come to school late so we could give the books to these schools. We went to SMP 189 first and they had a small ceremony for us. We also met the school Principal. In SMP Al Huda, we met the students in charge of the library and the librarians. We gave them the books and vouchers and went back to school. We had a great experience.
